Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10586: A Comprehensive Review

Today we are introducing a new ring named the Windows Insider Release Preview ring for both PC and mobile. The Release Preview ring will focus on Insiders that want to stay on the Current Branch (currently builds based off of 10586), but continue to receive early access to updates, application updates, and driver updates.

Windows 10 build 10586 is now rolling out to Insiders who opted for the Fast ring of updates. The new build does not include new features, but it includes a number of general improvements and bug fixes that bring the operating system close to completion, as you know the company soon plans to release the Windows 10 Fall Update to everyone.

Windows 10 PC Preview Build 10586 is available now for members of the Windows Insider program in the fast ring. This build mainly contains bug fixes and general improvements to tighten things up across the board.

The second stable build of Windows 10 is version 1511 (build number 10586), known as the November Update. It was codenamed "Threshold 2" (TH2) during development. This version was distributed via Windows Update on November 12, 2015. It contains various improvements to the operating system, its user interface, bundled services, as well as the introduction of Skype-based universal messaging apps, and the Windows Store for Business and Windows Update for Business features.[6][7][8][9]

Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring will find build 10586 on their Windows 10 systems ready to install this morning and it is likely the final pre-cursor to the expected Threshold 2 release later this month.

Microsoft has not confirmed that build 10586 is also the final Threshold 2 build however, if you remember back to when Windows 10 was released in July, Insiders received what would ultimately be the final release build two weeks prior to its official release on 29 July.

Now instead of launching newer Windows versions, Microsoft will continue releasing new builds of Windows 10 regularly to public just like the company did with the recent Windows 10 November Update which was actually a new build 10586 of Windows 10. The same build is also known as Windows 10 version 1511 or Threshold 2 (TH2).

The issue was that I had a dated Universal Windows Development SDK, build 10586. I upgraded to build 14393 -- which ironically matches the OS version of the installed Windows 10 IoT Core on my Raspberry Pi 3.

Windows 10 November Update (also known as version 1511 and codenamed "Threshold 2") is an update for Windows 10 which was released on 12 November 2015. It is a relatively minor update to the original release of Windows 10. It contains memory management improvements (included in Insider preview builds starting from build 10525), improvements to the overall UX and numerous enhancements to Microsoft Edge. The final build of the Windows 10 November Update (build 10586) was released to Insiders on 5 November 2015, and made available for consumers on 12 November 2015.

In AAWP Insight #166, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we talk CES 2016 and the latest Windows 10 Mobile topics. Rafe reports back from his recent trip to CES, outlining some broad themes and overall thoughts, before moving on to highlight some Windows specifics in the form of new hardware from Alcatel (including the first 8 inch tablets to run Windows Mobile 10) and how the Lumia 950 XL performed at the show. We also cover off the latest build of Windows 10 Mobile (10586.63) and Microsoft's details on the official Windows 10 Mobile roll out. 2ff7e9595c
